Preparing with Prep Kit C

Buy one box of Prep Kit C from the chemist (No prescription needed)

Please read these instructions carefully. For your colonoscopy to be successful a clear view of the bowel is necessary. If the bowel is thoroughly cleansed it is less likely that something will be missed due to being obscured by bowel motion.

After taking this preparation as per the instructions you should find you are passing only yellowish/brownish fluid and no solids.

1 WEEK BEFORE COLONOSCOPY - STOP IRON TABLETS OR SUPPLEMENTS

3 DAYS BEFORE COLONOSCOPY - DO NOT EAT ANYTHING WITH SKIN, SEEDS, NUTS OR GRAINS .

You can eat things like:

White bread (no whole seeds), pita/turkish bread, english muffins, cornflakes, rice bubbles, lean meat eg. beef, pork, lamb, veal or chicken, fish, peeled fruit, peeled vegetables (no beetroot), roasted peeled potato, mash potato, hot chips, crackers (no seeds e.g. Sao or Jatz), eggs, butter/margarine, Vegemite, Promite, Marmite, cheese, custard, ice-cream, chocolate (avoid bars containing nuts)

AVOID ALCOHOL

Do not eat anything which has skins, seeds, nuts or grains:

Corn, peas, strawberries, jams, wholegrain bread, cereals, onion, muesli, muesli bars, any nuts or food containing nuts, skin on apple, pear, peach or nectarine (peeled fruit is okay), marmalades with skins, citrus fruit, grapes, tomato skin or seeds, sundried tomato, skin on capsicum, eggplant or potato (peeled vegetables are okay), legumes eg. baked beans or kidney beans, mustard, sultanas and raisins, brown rice, casseroles containing vegetables, lentils, barley, split peas, coconut, sesame, sunflower or poppy seeds, fruit yoghurt, fibre supplement.

For a Morning Procedure (Before 11am)

The San will call you 3-7pm the day before your procedure to advise admission and fasting times, or on Friday if your procedure is on a Monday.

Prep Kit C Schedule for Morning Procedures:

1pm dose: Stir the entire contents of one sachet of Picoprep into a glass of warm water (about 250ml) until dissolved. Drink it slowly, followed by a glass of water.

4pm dose: Start to drink the previously prepared Glycoprep, drinking a glass every 15 minutes to finish it off over 1 hour. This rate can be slowed if you have any nausea. Continue to drink clear fluids until you go to bed and during the night, if still going to the toilet.

7pm dose: Drink the last sachet of Picoprep in a glass of water following the same instructions as the 1pm dose.

From Midnight - nothing to eat or drink (except approved clear fluid up until 2 hours prior to admission)

The day of procedure

Nothing to eat or drink (except approved clear fluid up until 2 hours prior to admission)

For an Afternoon Procedure (After 11am)

The San will call you 3-7pm the day before your procedure to advise admission and fasting times.

Prep Kit C Schedule for Afternoon Procedures:

3pm dose: Stir the entire contents of one sachet of Picoprep into a glass of warm water (about 250ml) until dissolved. Drink it slowly, followed by a glass of water.

6pm dose: Start to drink the previously prepared Glycoprep, drinking a glass every 15 minutes to finish within one hour. This rate can be slowed if you have any nausea.

Continue drinking clear fluids up until bed time and during the night, if still going to the toilet.

The day of procedure

7am dose - the day of the procedure: Mix the remaining Picoprep sachet into a glass of water and drink slowly, following the instructions for the first sachet. You can still have sips of clear fluids up until approximately 10 am.

10am onwards: Nothing more to eat or drink.
