Dr Sudarshan Paramsothy is an internationally credentialed and awarded Gastroenterologist & Hepatologist. He is well versed in and treats all aspects of general gastrointestinal and liver disorders. His subspecialty expertise is inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), with other clinical interests including high-quality bowel cancer surveillance and functional gastrointestinal disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome. His practice philosophy involves an evidence-based approach to care, tailored to his patient’s unique circumstances.

Dr Paramsothy graduated with First Class Honours from the University of NSW, and was awarded numerous University prizes relating to the medical sciences. After obtaining Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (Gastroenterology), Dr Paramsothy received an NHMRC Postgraduate Research Scholarship to conduct a PhD investigating faecal microbiota transplantation in ulcerative colitis. His PhD work was awarded multiple international prizes including from the American Gastroenterological Association, United European Gastroenterology association, European Crohn's & Colitis Organisation and the Gastroenterological Society of Australia Young Investigator Award. It was ultimately published in the extremely prestigious “Lancet” medical journal.

Dr Paramsothy was subsequently awarded highly esteemed overseas Advanced Fellowships at the University of Chicago Medicine (Joseph B. Kirsner Fellow 2016-17) and Mount Sinai Hospital, New York (Present-Levinson Fellow 2017-18). Both institutions are world-renowned centres of excellence in gastroenterology and IBD with global leaders in the field.

Dr Paramsothy has academic affiliations with the University of Sydney and Macquarie University. He is active in teaching and research supervision at all levels, including multiple PhD students. His main research interests relate to IBD, the gastrointestinal microbiota and therapeutic microbial manipulation strategies. Given his expertise, Dr Paramsothy is a regular invited peer reviewer for the major gastrointestinal journals and speaker at national & international meetings.

He is accredited for gastroscopy & colonoscopy by the Conjoint Committee for the Recognition of Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
